A precocious child and rebellious teenager, he wrote his first poems at the age of fifteen. He grew up without a father and under the marked authority of his mother as “73 administrators with lead caps”. He is a gifted young man and rather docile in appearance!
Arthur Rimbaud was born in Charleville on October 20, 1854 and felt cramped there during his adolescence. A small provincial town in the midst of industrial change, it is nevertheless on the fringes of the world of poetry through which he thirsts for expression. In Charleville, Arthur Rimbaud received a number of prizes and nominations for his editorial talents.
Throughout his travels and his tumultuous relationship with Paul Verlaine, he forged his legend. Today he is an icon recognized and studied throughout the world.
