La Roche à 7 Heures

The most spectacular meander in France with the one seen from ""La Longue Roche"" La Roche à Sept Heures is located in the communal forest of Montherme. This site sits atop steep rocky outcrops overlooking the Meuse and the small town of Monthermé. The name of Roche at Seven hours According to some, it has a very banal origin: it comes from the fact that at seven o'clock, the sun illuminating this rocky spur gives it a very visible shine. Indeed, it is made up of quartzites, compact siliceous rocks, rich in quartz, which reflect light. The viewpoint of this site offers a panorama very picturesque on this part of the Meuse. The major interest lies in the meander, considered the most spectacular in France, in the convex portion of which the town of Monthermé is located. This site is close to that of La Longue Roche.
