The gardens of the former abbey, a verdant heritage setting
A short walk from the abbey church of Mouzon, there is an old abbey of Benedictine monks.
Founded in 971 by the Archbishop of Reims, it is made up of three buildings:
- a main building (currently a retirement home),
- a dovecote
- of outbuildings (Felt Museum which houses theTourist Office).
Over time, the abbey gardens have been preserved. Designed for strolling and contemplation, these gardens are a perfect place to take a break during a heritage visit to Mouzon. They fit naturally into the discovery route of the old town center and complement a visit to the Gothic basilica.
The immediate proximity of the Meuse River enhances the attractiveness of the site and makes it a popular stopping point for visitors, families and cyclists using the Trans-Ardennes greenway. Between religious heritage, river landscape and relaxation, the gardens of the former abbey fully participate in the art of living in Mouzon.
Mouzon on the Trans-Ardennes greenway
Another major advantage: Mouzon is located on the Trans-Ardennes greenway, an iconic route that crosses the department along the Meuse (The Meuse by bike, EuroVelo 19). On foot or by bike, visitors can easily stop in Mouzon, discover its heritage, and then continue their journey in an exceptional natural setting.
