In the heart of the Ardennes, where the forest still whispers tales of yesteryear, legend is never far away. A land of mysteries and imagination, the Ardennes massif is inextricably linked to one of the greatest medieval epics: that of the Four Sons of Aymon. Between history and myth, the Rocks of the 4 Sons of Aymon embody in themselves this legendary soul that shapes the territory.

The Rocks of the Four Sons of Aymon, a mythical site in the Ardennes

Located on the heights of Bogny-sur-Meuse at an altitude of 260 meters, perched above the Meuse valley, These impressive rocky spurs emerging from the dense Ardennes forest offer a spectacular setting, sculpted by time and inhabited by the heroic tales of Renaud and his brothersfleeing from Emperor Charlemagne on the back of the fairy horse Bayard.
Even today, the site invites you to escape: a magnificent panorama, preserved nature and collective imagination meet there to make the Rochers des 4 Fils Aymon an emblematic place, both natural and profoundly mythical.

A foundational legend: the Four Sons of Aymon

The site takes its name from the famous medieval epic poem recounting the story of the four brothers – Renaud, Allard, Guichard and Richard – sons of Duke Aymon. On the run after rebelling against Charlemagne, they find refuge in the Ardennes, guided by their magical horse Bayard, capable of carrying all four brothers at once.
According to legend, the four rocky peaks that can be seen today are the petrified silhouettes of the brothers, frozen for eternity. This story, passed down from generation to generation, makes these rocks a true symbol of freedom, bravery and brotherhood.
