Located in the commune of Bairon and its surroundings, south of Charleville-Mézières, near Rethel and not far from Vouziers, Lake Bairon benefits from a remarkable natural environment.

The Old Pond: a sanctuary for wildlife
With its 120 hectares, the site actually consists of two distinct bodies of water: one body of water dedicated to leisure and one classified as Natura 2000, called "Old Pond", dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity.
Lake Bairon is renowned for its rich fauna, particularly ornithology. It is home to approximately 150 species, including grey herons, great crested grebes, Eurasian coots, northern shovelers, and great egrets. Numerous migratory species stop there throughout the seasons.
A bird observatory allows visitors to admire this biodiversity discreetly..
A 4,5 km discovery trail allows you to walk around the Old Pond through forest, reedbeds and wetlands, punctuated by educational panels dedicated to the fauna and flora.

The second body of water is dedicated to relaxation and leisure activities. In the summer season, the equipped beach becomes a very popular supervised swimming area.
