From Monthermé to Fumay via the Meuse by bike / EuroVelo 19

A typical starting point for the route, Monthermé is nestled in a spectacular bend of the Meuse River. Along your journey, the steep-sided valley is rich in forests and legends. The Meuse by bike / EuroVelo 19, converted into a safe greenway along the towpath, leads you to Fumay, one of the emblematic towns of the extraction of blue slate in the Ardennes.

Then continue towards Givet along the Wild Meuse, bordered by wooded hills. Charlemont dominates the city, offering an essential stopping point before crossing the Belgian border if you wish to continue the loop.

From Givet to Hautes-Rivières, beyond borders

You leave the banks of the Meuse for a different landscape. First, you head towards Beauraing and the Calestienne plateau. At Neuport, you follow the Lesse, then the Almache. The route follows the ridge line before descending steeply into the Semois valley, returning to France at Hautes-Rivières where you rejoin the Trans-Semoysian.

You enter France through an emblematic village in the working-class Semoy valley. If in the past the steam hammer set the rhythm, today it is the gentle murmur of the river that will delight your ears.
Built on the former railway line, the Trans-Semoysian it crosses peaceful landscapes dotted with viewpoints and signs about the local natural and industrial heritage.
