La Roche à Sept-heures

Description

Monthermé, a city nestled at the bottom of the Meuse valley, is dominated by the steep heights of the Envelope. From the ridge path, the spectacle of the great loop unfolds to the horizon.

1/ From the Tourist Office, Place Jean-Baptiste Clément, take the main street.
2/ Continue in the direction of Thilay, passing in front of the bank, the gendarmerie, the college and the rescue centre.
3/ A little further up, take the ramp (retaining wall) for a few meters, then turn left onto Rue de l'Égalité which runs alongside the cemetery and Rue de la Promenade. At the end, continue straight ahead along the path which leads to the Auberge de la Roche-à-Sept-Heures.
4/ Take the forest road towards La Roche-à-Sept-Heures. After the viewpoint, go left. A slight climb, a few stairs and a metal ramp indicate the start of the Chemin des Crêtes which overlooks the loop. Through the woods, reach the Longue Roche site.
5/ Take the tree-lined path just behind.
6/ At the intersection, turn left to join Chemin Saint-Louis and descend the hillside. At the bottom, continue towards the Tourist Office. Circuit taken from the topoguide Les Ardennes à pied, June 2017
