Description

Vendresse, Place de la Mairie.

At the starting sign, head towards the Bois de la Virginie. After 200m, take the path on the right then continue straight for 1km to arrive at the Bois de la Virginie arboretum* (1).

Then take the path on the right then, after the forest barriers, turn left then immediately right.

Then continue straight into the woods for 850m during which you will cross two intersections. Arriving at marker number 10/14 (2), turn right to exit the woods.

You then see opposite the Vendresse ponds and the Morteau farm which owes its name to the marshes surrounding it (morte-eau).

Return to Vendresse via the fields over a 1,8km section. Pass in front of the football field then, once you arrive on the main road, turn right to enter the village.

Continue straight on “Rue Pol Boin” for 500m which will take you near the Saint-Martin church (4), listed as a historic monument in 1972.

Return to your starting point.

*You can choose to extend your route by walking the arboretum loop. This loop will add 1,2 km to your itinerary and will offer you a view of the Bar Valley. This arboretum presents many remarkable species as well as an avenue of Douglas planted in 1912 by Professor Pol Bouin (biologist and cytologist recognized for his work which indirectly led to hormonal treatments and the contraceptive pill).
