Château de Turenne
Visible from outside, private property
The castle, called "de Turenne" or "Ferme Turenne", owes its name to the Prince of Sedan, Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, Viscount of Turenne, who had it built around 1600. According to oral tradition, the latter sent his son, the future Marshal of Turenne, to stay there during his childhood.
In Bazeilles, it is likely that a fortified house already existed in the Middle Ages on the very site of this castle. Although badly damaged in 1870, the current remains allow us to imagine the architectural splendor it possessed at the beginning of the 17th century: a drawbridge, a richly decorated gate, a gallery with seven arcades in the courtyard, two gardens surrounded by moats, as well as a wall pierced with XNUMX firing positions. Its portal is also listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments.
