Les Remparts de Carignan

Yvois was fortified from the Gallo-Roman era. Border town of the Holy Roman Empire, Charles V surrounded it in the XNUMXth century with a fortified enclosure with still existing casemates.
In 1639, Louis XIII razed the city.
Became French in 1659 and renamed Carignan, Louis XIV endowed it with a belt of ramparts of which many elements remain: bastions, walls and a recently restored guardhouse. The set was listed in 1994.
