The Maison du Patrimoine is a Center for Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage (CIAP) and is part of the City of Art and History label, which Sedan obtained in 1999. The Ministry of Culture assigns the City or Country of Art and History label to territories that undertake to protect and animate their heritage, and signs an agreement with them. Today, more than 195 Cities and Countries of Art and History highlight heritage in its diversity throughout France.

Heritage promotion actions are implemented, coordinated by the Architecture and Heritage Facilitator:

- guided tours,
– visits and workshops with schools,
– events such as European Heritage Days, Rendez-vous aux jardins, National Architecture Days, etc.
– publication of discovery tours, brochures on the history of the city,
– exhibitions.

As part of the agreements signed with the State, each City or Country of Art and History undertakes to create a CIAP.

An Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Center is a place for presenting the territory in its urban, historical and architectural dimension. It aims to give residents and tourists, children and adults alike, the keys to understanding the city, before or in addition to a visit.

A CIAP is not a museum in that we do not present collections there, but plans, photos, models, materials, architectural projects... which make you want to go and see the city in real life!

Called “Maison du Patrimoine”, the CIAP of Sedan includes:

– a permanent exhibition to address urban development over the centuries as well as themes specific to the territory,
– a temporary exhibition room,
– a reception and documentary space,
– an activity room for schools,
– the offices of the Heritage department.

The Heritage House is accessible to the hearing impaired thanks to transcriptions, to the visually impaired using audio guides and to people with reduced mobility.
We speak: French, English
