Eglise Saint Rémy de Pouru Saint Rémy

Open on request at the town hall
The bell tower (and probably the nave) was rebuilt in 1822 as indicated by the date on a cartouche on the western façade, under the clock (the bell was supplied the following year). In 1834, the tender for work to extend the church by Pierre Cornu de Bazeilles took place: this most likely involved the construction of the apse and the sacristy. The estimate provided for the use of Bulson cut stone.

The Saint-Remy church is located in the centre of the village. It has an elongated plan. The single-aisle nave is preceded by a western massif composed of a bell tower in the centre framed by a chapel to the south and the winding staircase to the north. A ante-choir bay precedes the choir which is composed of a straight bay and a semicircular apse with a polygonal volume against which the sacristy is backed. The building is built of limestone rubble with a limestone ashlar chain and the bell tower is rendered. The interior faces of the walls are rendered. The floor of the nave is covered with Romery-type limestone tiles and that of the choir with a checkerboard of black and grey marble. The building has only one level pierced by large semi-circular bays. The nave, the ante-choir bay, the right bay of the choir are vaulted by a basket-handle barrel vault and the apse by a cul-de-four. All the roofs of the building are in slate. The nave, the sacristy and the choir are covered by a long-span roof, the apse by a polygonal croup and the bell tower by a polygonal spire.
