Église Saint Anne

History:

The reconstruction of the Sainte-Anne church, near the old church, began in 1850 (the date of 1851 is inscribed on the transom of the western portal) following the plans of the architect Labarre drawn up on March 31, 1850. The old church
was relief of the church of Nouzon itself depending on the parish of Braux; it had been built at the expense of the inhabitants in 1626 with the agreement of the Archbishop of Reims Gabriel de Sainte-Marie.

Description:

The Sainte-Anne church is located in the center of the village and its choir faces south. It has an elongated plan.

The nave with three vessels of five bays is preceded by a western massif composed of the bell tower framed by the chapel
font and the spiral staircase, on the left, and the confessional chapel, on the right.
The choir consists of a long straight bay and a semicircular apse; the right span is framed by the sacristy, on the left, and a chapel, on the opposite.

The building is built of schist rubble from the quarries of Braux and Joigny (the collaterals are largely coated) but the chains, bays and cornices are made of freestone from Dom-le-Mesnil.

The floor of the nave is covered with large slabs from the quarries of Saint-Laurent and that of the choir with a checkerboard of black and brown veined marble tiles.

The interior faces of the walls are plastered.

The walls are pierced with semi-circular bays.

The western facade with ordered elevation presents a semi-circular portal at the end of a short porch; it is framed, on the sides, by two semi-circular bays, and is surmounted by an oculus.

The nave's central nave is covered with a semicircular false vault supported by large semicircular arcades with square pillars; the side aisles are capped, the right bay of the choir is semi-circular vaulted and the apse has a cul-de-four.

The roof of the building is in slate.

The nave and the right bay of the choir are covered by a roof with long sides (terminated by hips on the side aisles), the apse by a round hip and the bell tower by a skylight with an imperial roof.
