Ancienne usine metallurgique

Visible from the Elan pond
A metallurgical factory was established on the Boutancourt stream by Jean-Nicolas Gendarme in 1830. It was called the Algiers forge in reference to the capture of this city the same year. It had two puddling furnaces, a refining fire and hammers. On Gendarme's death, the Boutancourt factory passed to his grandson Hannonet de la Grange, and in 1865 to the E. Muaux et Cie Company, which also owned the Flize factory. In 1862, housing was added to the production building. In 1868 it was sold to Baudry, then successively transformed into a sawmill by Pouplier, into an ironworks from 1914 and finally into a cutting-edge factory by Boxberger from 1931. The site is currently occupied by a craftsman.
