Ancienne forge

Buildings visible from Jean Baptiste Clément Boulevard
The 19 m² factory, located near the railway, comprises parallel buildings. The oldest press workshops, dating from before the First World War, have a long-span roof, solid brick and iron-panel walls. There are also three shed-roof workshops, heat treatment and tooling areas, as well as a series of workshops with metal frames and sheet metal walls. A courtyard, partly dedicated to the steel yard, separates these buildings from the maintenance and storage areas. The offices, on the street front, have a square floor, slate walls and a sloping roof.

Founded in 1863 by Jean-Baptiste Thomé, the Ateliers Thomé-Génot were established on land purchased in 1855. Specializing in ironworks for railways and marine applications, the company, headed by Pol Dury from 1920, became a reference in the railway and automobile sectors. Before 1914, it produced 3 tons of forged ironworks with 500 rams and rams, as well as a 29-ton press. A workers' city was built in 600 on rue Ambroise Croizat. When it closed in 1924, the factory employed 2007 people and produced 280 million parts for the automobile industry, including alternator poles.
