Nécropole nationale d'Orfeuil
Franco-German military cemetery of the First World War
Located on one of the very places where the terrible battles of 1918 took place, the necropolis gathers the bodies of 1312 French soldiers who fell during the battles of Vouziers in 1918, 259 of whom rest in 2 ossuaries. Created after the fighting, this necropolis was laid out until 1935 to house bodies exhumed from isolated graves or temporary military cemeteries located south of Vouziers. Among the French fighters lie the remains of 6 Russian soldiers. The bereaved families erected, inside this necropolis, a stone obelisk dedicated to the soldiers of the units engaged in 1918. This place of memory is located near a German cemetery where 3088 soldiers are buried.
