Ligne Maginot – Ouvrage de La Ferté

Open from March to November
Built between 1935 and 1937, the work of La Ferté is a fortified element of the powerful Maginot Line. In May 1940, it became the scene of one of the most tragic episodes of the Battle of France. After four days of fighting, the fort saw its entire crew – 105 men – perish asphyxiated in the gallery connecting its two blocks.
Open to the public and run by a team of volunteers, the Villy-La Ferté site is now a place of remembrance of the fighting of May – June 1940, which was particularly devastating in the Ardennes.
Come discover the unique story of these men and their work which was to become their concrete and steel tomb.
Several slots are open to visit the Ouvrage de La Ferté (please note that while access to the scenography area of the reception building and the exterior is free, access to the interior of the blocks and galleries is only possible on a guided tour!):
