During the war of 1870, soldiers of the Marine Infantry posted themselves in this inn in order to oppose a final resistance to the Bavarian soldiers during the battles of September 1st. The building still retains the veracity of events through its structures.
The museum is located in the old inn where the heroic resistance action of around fifty men of the Marine Infantry Division took place during the battles of Bazeilles on August 31 and September 1, 1870. The traces of this event have been preserved, notably the piece immortalized in the famous painting by Alphonse de Neuville. The objects presented come largely from the battlefield as well as donations from descendants of soldiers. The museum presents a general overview of the war, the Battle of Sedan and the course of fighting in the village. At the end of the visit, you can go to the Bazeilles Ossuary, located in the commune cemetery. Also visible, to the right of the House of the Last Cartridge, is a place where 19 soldiers rest and in the center of the village, the monument commemorating these events. Every year, a ceremony takes place in the village to commemorate the act of bravery of the men of this Army.
