Eglise Sainte Croix de Vrigne Meuse

Closed to the public
The Sainte-Croix church, located to the west of the village in the centre of the cemetery, has an elongated plan. Its nave, built at the end of the 12th century, has a single vessel and is followed by a choir with a flat chevet, remodelled around 1500 with a ribbed vault. The building was fortified in modern times, as evidenced by a gun port on the north wall.

The first part of the nave, including the façade, the portal and the timber-framed porch, was added in the 18th century (graffiti dated 1741). The bell tower, placed at the ridge of the nave, was restored in 1893 by Henry Couty with a fir spire and a slate roof.

Built in rubble and cut stone from Dom-le-Mesnil, the building is covered with synthetic materials imitating slate. Inside, the floors are mosaic inlaid in concrete, and the walls are rendered. The nave is surmounted by a false depressed barrel vault, while the choir is vaulted with ribs.
