Thermes Gallo-Romains de Warcq

Rare for their luxury and their state of preservation, the thermal baths dating from the beginning of our era were discovered at the gates of Charleville-Mézières. They testify to a rich past buried in the Ardennes subsoil. In order to keep them as they are, restoration work will be undertaken. Then, an enhancement of the site will be carried out to make it a place of transmission and scientific sharing accessible to all.

Since 2009, the Departmental Council of the Ardennes has had an archaeological operations unit, reconciling the safeguarding of the Ardennes archaeological heritage and the development of new development projects. The latter, during the excavation led by Julien Bruyère, in the spring of 2017 in Warcq, made it possible to highlight these thermal baths. This complete set includes different rooms dedicated to baths, an ingenious heating system and various ornaments of white and colored marble.

To this day, we must protect these vestiges so that they resist time and continue to tell us our story. The project consists of restoring this complex, namely draining the soil and consolidating the thermal baths so that they can withstand this new exposure to the open air, and then promoting the site through educational panels as well as through adequate development. for future visitors allowing them to approach the site without damaging it.

This project appeals to you and you want to be part of this great adventure and thus contribute to the enhancement of these thermal baths and more broadly to the development of the territory, so make a donation!
