Cimetière militaire Français de la Marfée

The French military cemetery is home to soldiers from the First World War:
1200 in a mass grave and 528 in individual graves. On August 26, 27 and 28, 1914, Breton and Vendée regiments resisted and pushed back the enemy: they would only retreat on orders from the general staff.
Colonel Marolles died on August 27, his last words were: “I die happy, my soldiers are brave”.
