Ancienne usine de transformation des métaux Poulain

Visible from the outside, as it is a private residence
In 1806, when the widow of Joseph-Alexis Poulain, owner of all the metallurgical establishments in Boutancourt, died, the Forge du Bas included a platemaking facility and a forge. This facility complemented the two upper factories in Boutancourt. When Jean-Nicolas Gendarme bought it from Poulain's son-in-law in 1821, the forge consisted of a large hammer, two foxholes and two platemaking facilities. When Gendarme died in 1845, the Boutancourt factories passed to his grandson Hannonet de la Grange and, in 1865, to the E. Muaux et Cie Company, which also owned the Flize factory (IA08000397). The site has currently been converted into a home. The factory consisted of three parallel buildings located near the dam of the retention basin: the forge hall (destroyed), the platinum room with coal hall, and the workers' housing. The remaining buildings are reminiscent of those of the Forge du Haut. They are built in limestone rubble and cut stone for the frames, and have long-span, half-hip roofs and exposed wooden frames covered with mechanical tiles.
