Ancienne fonderie de la Société des Aciérés

Visible from the outside from Rue de l'Abattoir in Charleville
The Société des Aciéries de Charleville, founded in 1948 by Mr. Collot, produced cast steel for the automobile industry. After difficulties in 1978, the unit on Rue Forges Saint-Charles closed in 1984, followed by the one in Villers-Semeuse in 1988. Disused, the site was bought in 1988 and 1994 by a private individual, who had the roofs of the casting workshop removed for safety reasons. The casting workshop, along the Meuse, had been destroyed before the sale. In 1984, the company employed 48 people.

The factory, located on a narrow plot on the banks of the Meuse, is in a former industrial district. The foundry comprises a two-storey northern building for the sand reserve and a casting workshop with a shed roof, partially uncovered. These structures, made of reinforced concrete and bricks, have metal frames and mixed roofs (mechanical tiles and sheet metal). To the south, the two-nave demoulding workshop has a reinforced concrete frame and asbestos-cement roofs.

Near the entrance, the caretaker's lodge and the brick and wood maintenance workshop are accompanied by recent offices. A machine shop, from the former Forges Saint-Charles, completes the site, reflecting the prolonged industrial transformations of this area.
