Ancienne usine de quincaillerie Dardenne

Buildings visible from the outside

The Jardinier-Hivert factory, founded by Émile Hivert around 1848, specialized in nail making. Jules Dardenne, successor, renamed the company Dardenne-Bourguignon and set up shop on rue Gambetta, but the lack of space forced him to rent the Forge Gendarme, which he modernized. In 1904, his son Albert developed the business internationally from these premises rented from Baron Evain. After damage suffered during the First World War and the death of Albert, his son René moved the company to premises built by Carnot de Douzy. In 1971, Jean, René's son, expanded the company, renamed Ferogalva-Dardenne, which however filed for bankruptcy in 1992. Since then, Bruno, Jean's son, has taken over the production of ironwork and building hardware.

The workshop, once powered by a thermal engine, now uses an electric motor to drive the machines via transmission shafts and belts. Located on rue Danton, it consists of a small ground-floor structure made of iron panels with brickwork, topped with a long-span roof made of metal framing and covered with corrugated iron. The company had up to 13 employees.
