Ancienne usine d'armes dite Manufacture Royale d'armes

Currently a gymnasium and museum
In 1688, Maximilien Titon and Victor Fournier bought the property of the ironmaster Robillard to build there, from 1690, a factory specializing in the manufacture of gun barrels, at the place called La Forge de Nouzon. Powered by the hydraulic power of the Goutelle thanks to a canal, the factory, fortified and staffed by 80 men, prospered until 1836, with a peak under the Revolution and the Empire, employing 1074 people in 1798.

After its closure, the site was taken over by Jean-Nicolas Gendarme in 1837, then successively occupied by ironworks, foundry and forge activities in the 19th century. In 1986, most of the buildings were demolished, but a few remains remain: the 1689 store (in limestone rubble, slate roof), two towers of the enclosure (one of which was integrated into a school), the retention basin and the large forge, which today houses the Vieux Nouzon museum. A sports hall occupies the former 1689 store.
