Place Ducale

One of the most beautiful baroque squares in north-eastern France, twin sister of Place des Vosges in Paris
One of the most beautiful Baroque squares in northeastern France, listed as a historical monument in 1936, the Place Ducale is the twin of the Place des Vosges in Paris, born from the dream of an Italian prince, Charles de Gonzague. An architectural jewel of the 17th century, the Place Ducale is the heart of Charleville.
In a harmonious Baroque style, the square, with its 26 pavilions set upon a beautiful arcaded gallery, is illuminated by the warm, ochre hues of Dom-le-Mesnil stone. Guided tours of the town are offered from March to October by the tourist office.
