Just a few minutes from Charleville-Mézières, the Domaine des Ayvelles invites you to discover a place where military heritage and nature meet. Nestled in the heart of a 37-hectare wooded park, the fort provides an ideal setting for a walk or bike ride, a picnic, or an immersion in history.
Built between 1877 and 1879, Fort des Ayvelles is the only remaining example of the Séré de Rivières system of fortifications in the Ardennes. Explore its impressive watchtowers, defensive ditches, battery, and the remains of remarkable military architecture on a self-guided or guided tour. The site also recounts the significant events of the summer of 1914, when the fort was at the heart of the German invasion.
Managed and operated by the Association du Fort et de la Batterie des Ayvelles, the fort is not open continuously. Group visits are by reservation only, while individual visitors are asked to contact the association before their visit. The grounds' paths and picnic areas remain freely accessible year-round.
