Église de Savigny-sur-Aisne

Listed as a Historic Monument in 1913

Located in the middle of the village, discover the church of Savigny-sur-Aisne. Dating from the 15th century, this Gothic-style church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Nativity also called Our Lady of Angevine.

Built in local materials, the exterior facades are made of yellow stones from the quarries of Authe and Dom le Mesnil. The white stones that make up the interior and exterior walls come from the village of Chémery. The facade of the church is adorned with a magnificent flamboyant Gothic portal. The arched stained glass windows are bordered by fine plant sculptures. The sides of the arch are decorated with sculptures of Saint Bartholomew, Saint John, Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

At the top of the peak, it is possible to admire the sculpture of a dragon whose mission is to repel evil from the church.

Facing east, the church is built in the form of a Latin cross. The nave and the choir form the longest branch and the transept presents the shortest branch.

Visits to the church are possible on request from the town hall.
