Eglise Notre Dame de Fleigneux

Open on request from the town hall
"Sources establish that the church was remodeled in 1763 (the bell tower may have been built at this time because two bells were supplied in 1769). A restoration campaign also took place in 1845 and must have concerned the openings and the roofs. According to its vault and the triumphal arch, the choir seems to date back to the 17th century.
The Notre-Dame church is located in the centre of the village and its choir faces north-east. It has an elongated plan. The single-aisle nave is preceded by a bell tower whose ground floor serves as a vestibule. The square-plan choir has a flat chevet and the sacristy is built against its southern side. The building is built from Romery limestone rubble and schist with a stone chain. The interior faces of the walls are rendered. The floor of the central aisle of the nave and the choir is covered with polychrome cement tiles and the part under the pews with limestone slabs. The building has only one level pierced by pointed arch bays and the choir is lit by two large half-rose windows. The nave is covered by a pointed barrel vault and the choir by a ribbed vault. All of the building's roofs are made of slate. The nave and the choir are covered by a long-span roof and the bell tower by a polygonal spire; at the level of the choir, two perpendicular long-span roofs simulate a transept.”
