Chapelle d'Hargnies

A chapel in honor of the patron saint of Hargnies was built by the inhabitants of the village.
At the entrance to Hargnies, arriving from Vireux-Wallerand, this chapel is located on your right.
This chapel is dedicated, like several others in the Val d'Ardenne, to Saint Roch, patron saint and protector of plague victims.

Let us remember that a terrible epidemic of plague raged in the region at the beginning of the 17th century and that Saint Roch was often invoked as the saint who assists his devotees against the contagion of the plague among other things...

Saint Roch probably reminds you of the legend of Saint Roch and his dog.
Here is a brief summary:
Saint Roch was born in 1349 in Montpellier. When he came of age, he distributed all his possessions to the poor and went on a pilgrimage to Rome. He stopped in several towns in Italy affected by the Black Death and obtained numerous cures.
Unfortunately, he too caught the disease. He then retired to a forest so as not to infect others. Only a dog from a neighboring lord visited him and brought him bread stolen from his master's table every day. Intrigued by the ride of his dog, the lord followed him and discovered Roch at the bottom of his retreat.
He rescued him and thus Roch recovered his health.

It should be noted
