Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance – Place de Daigny

This tank is a reconnaissance machine (EBR) mounted on tires, and not on tracks, which belonged to an emblematic regiment of Sedan, the 12th Regiment of Chasseurs à Cheval, dissolved in 1984, whose maneuvering ground was on the territory of Daigny. After the last war, the EBRs and their crews took over from the horses and their riders, from whom they took over the mission of going in the vanguard to reconnoitre the enemy's positions. Sedan was a garrison town, and mainly of cavalry, for nearly six centuries, from the beginning of the 75th century to the end of the 1th century, and the town and its surroundings retain many traces of it which form an important part of our historical heritage. . The Givonne valley, an immemorial border valley, having often had to defend itself over the centuries against armed bands, has seen the erection of four strongholds along its course, Givonne, Daigny, La Moncelle and Bazeilles, of which there are no remains unfortunately more than the last two. It also suffered from the Franco-German wars which devastated the Sedan region three times in 1870 years, but it is the drama of September XNUMX, XNUMX of which it retains the
the most cruel scars: hundreds of corpses lay in Daigny, as in the neighboring towns on the evening of the battle and only some could be grouped together in the cemeteries, the others having disappeared in scattered mass graves.
