à LA FRANCHEVILLE

Eglise Saint-Thomas de la Francheville

According to a presentation text located at the entrance, the Saint-Thomas church was built in 1839. The Saint-Thomas church, located in the center of the village and facing northwest, has an elongated plan. Its three-aisled nave with three bays is preceded by a semi-outstretched bell tower, flanked by two chapels. The base of the bell tower serves as a vestibule and provides access to the upper parts by a spiral staircase. The choir, composed of two bays and a semicircular apse, is framed by chapels accessible from the choir and the side aisles. The sacristy is attached to the left side of the choir.

The main façade is made of Dom-le-Mesnil stone, while the rest of the building is made of rubble. The interior walls are rendered and the floor is made of limestone. The building has only one level with large semi-circular bays. The bell tower includes a ground floor, an organ gallery and a bell chamber. The nave is separated by Corinthian columns, with a barrel vault for the central nave and the choir, ceilings for the side aisles, and a cul-de-four for the apse. All the roofs are made of slate, with varied styles for each part of the church.
