Eglise Saint Rémi de Villers sur Bar

Closed to the public
The choir of the Saint-Rémi church, dating from the beginning of the 13th century, was remodeled in the 17th century: its vault was rebuilt and its sides pierced to create two defensive spaces with arquebusiers, probably from elements reused from the original vault. The south bay of the choir bears the date of 1742, while those of the nave date from 1869.

Located to the east of the village and facing north-east, the church has an elongated plan: a single-aisled nave, a choir widened by two outgrowths serving as chapels, a sacristy attached to the north wall and a spiral staircase integrated into the south chapel. Built in yellow limestone rubble with ashlar chains, it rests on a floor of large limestone slabs.

The walls, pierced with semi-circular bays, include arquebusiers, some of which have been blocked. The western façade has a basket-handle door flanked by Tuscan pilasters, surmounted by a Doric entablature and a curved pediment interrupted by a niche.

The nave is ceilinged, the side chapels are barrel vaulted with ribs, and the choir is vaulted with ribs. The roof, made of synthetic material, consists of long-span roofs for the nave, the choir and the sacristy, and a polygonal spire for the bell tower.
