Eglise Saint Pierre de Villers Semeuse

Closed to the public
The Saint-Pierre church, built around 1550, has a western portal rebuilt in 1604, as indicated by an inscription on the clasp. Given to the chapter of Mézières in the 12th century, it is located in the center of the city and faces northeast.

The church has an elongated plan: a three-aisled nave with three bays, followed by a choir with two straight bays and a three-sided apse. The sacristy is located at the corner of the north aisle and the choir. The square-plan wooden bell tower rises above the first bay of the central nave.

The western façade is made of Dom-le-Mesnil stone, while the rest is made of limestone rubble with stone chains. The interior is rendered, and the floors alternate a checkerboard of black and white marble in the apse and limestone slabs elsewhere. The pointed arched bays with tracery light up the building, the interior volumes of which are vaulted with ogives, some with liernes and tiercerons.

The slate roofs cover the different parts: long-span roofs for the nave and the choir, polygonal hip for the apse, long transverse sections for the sacristy and the side aisles, and polygonal spire for the bell tower.
