Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens de Balaives
Closed to the public
Balaives is mentioned in 1207 in a charter of Hugues, Count of Rethel, and its church, in a pouillé dated 1306, as being a relief church of the parish of Etrepigny; this situation continued until 1871 when it became a branch. A commemorative plaque located at the entrance to the nave relates that the church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens was built in 1888 thanks to the generosity of the Borderel couple, the castellans of the castle of Sault which was located opposite. They also donated the presbytery and the village school and their family endowed the church with part of the furniture. The old church was located in the middle of the cemetery, a few meters further northeast, and its materials were sold in 1889.
