Eglise Saint Lambert de Sécheval

Closed to the public
The Saint-Lambert church, located in the centre of the village, was completely rebuilt from 12 April 1829, according to the plans adopted by the municipal council. The first stone was laid on 19 July 1829 by the prefect of the Ardennes, Baron de Lascourd. The church, enlarged and equipped with a stone tower for strength, has an elongated plan.

The three-aisled nave with five bays is preceded by a western massif comprising the bell tower, an entrance vestibule, and two circulation spaces. The choir consists of a straight bay framed by two storage rooms and a polygonal hemicircular apse, with the sacristy adjoining it.

Built in schist rubble with elements of Dom-le-Mesnil stone, the interior is rendered, and the floor is paved in a checkerboard pattern of black and white marble. The walls are pierced with semicircular bays. The western facade, decorated with a central semicircular portal framed by two avant-corps, includes two side portals with half-moons leading to the side aisles.

The bell tower comprises two identical levels, with a central bay flanked by niches. The side aisles are ceilinged, while the nave and the choir have semicircular vaults, and the apse is covered with a cul-de-four.

The slate roof consists of long-span roofs for the nave and the right bay of the choir (with hips for the side aisles), a polygonal hipped roof for the apse, a long-span roof for the sacristy, and an imperial roof topped with a polygonal spire for the bell tower.
