Eglise Saint – Hilaire de Noyers Pont Maugis

Opening on request from the town hall

The Saint-Hilaire church, located in the centre of the village of Noyers and facing north-east, has an elongated plan. Its construction dates back to the end of the 1694th century for the choir and certain parts, but it was remodelled in the 1715th century (raising of the walls, modification of the bays, addition of an attic above the choir and the south chapel, etc.). The sacristy dates from 1867, the bell tower from 1952, and its portal was redone in XNUMX. The chapel of the Virgin, probably from the XNUMXth century, had its vault redone in XNUMX, with wall paintings added at that time.

The three-aisled nave, preceded by the bell tower, leads to a square choir flanked to the south by the chapel of the Virgin. The walls, made of limestone rubble with ashlar chains, are pierced with semicircular or depressed arched bays. The interior is rendered and whitewashed, the floor alternating large limestone slabs and a checkerboard of black and red marble. The nave is ceilinged, while the choir and chapel are vaulted with ribs. The roof, made of slate, has long-span roofs, except for the bell tower, covered with an exposed gable.
