Eglise Saint – Hilaire de Noyers Pont Maugis
Opening on request from the town hall
The Church of Saint-Hilaire, located in the center of the village of Noyers and oriented to the northeast, has an elongated plan. Its construction dates back to the late 12th century for the chancel and some other parts, but it was remodeled in the 17th century (raising of the walls, modification of the windows, addition of a roof over the chancel and the south chapel, etc.). The sacristy dates from 1694, the bell tower from 1715, and its portal was rebuilt in 1867. The Chapel of the Virgin, probably from the 16th century, had its vault rebuilt in 1952, with murals added at that time.
The three-aisled nave, preceded by the bell tower, leads to a square choir flanked to the south by the chapel of the Virgin. The walls, made of limestone rubble with ashlar chains, are pierced with semicircular or depressed arched bays. The interior is rendered and whitewashed, the floor alternating large limestone slabs and a checkerboard of black and red marble. The nave is ceilinged, while the choir and chapel are vaulted with ribs. The roof, made of slate, has long-span roofs, except for the bell tower, covered with an exposed gable.
