Eglise Saint – Gonthier de Chalandry

Closed to the public
The choir of the Saint-Gonthier church probably dates back to the Gothic period (13th or 14th century) and the nave was added in two stages in the 17th and 18th centuries, as proven by the work carried out on the north wall (graffiti is dated 1657 on the south portal).
The Notre-Dame church, located in the centre of the village and facing north-east, has an elongated plan. The single-aisle nave extends seamlessly into the choir, which consists of a straight bay and a three-sided apse. The sacristy is built against the north side of the choir. The bays, cornices, portal and quoins are made of cut stone, the rest of rubble. The interior is rendered, and the floor is paved with large limestone slabs. The church has only one level, with medium-sized bays. The bell tower is located on the nave and topped with a polygonal spire. All the roofs are made of slate, with long-span roofs for the nave, the choir and the sacristy.
