Église Saint Antoine de Padoue

Neo-Romanesque church, place of pilgrimage to Saint Anthony of Padua since 1706. Note: the choir of the church, the equal nave and transept, of neo-Gothic architecture.

History:

In 1868, parish priest Justin-Joseph Wimet arrived in the parish and found a dilapidated church. He began looking for funds to rebuild it but the project was somewhat hampered by the war of 1870. Work finally began in 1874 and ended in 1876 under the direction of the Sedan architect Jean-Baptiste Couty. It was blessed on May 15, 1877 by Mgr Langénieux, Archbishop of Reims.

Description:

The Saint-Antoine church is located in the center of the village and is west.
It has a Latin cross plan.
The nave with three naves of two spans is preceded by the bell tower framed by the spiral staircase, on the left, and a storage room, on the right.
Chapels oriented in apsidioles open on the walls of the salient transept and also on the right span of the choir; the latter ends in a semicircular apse.
The chapels are flanked by two sacristies, the one on the left of which has a cellar and an attic.
The walls are high in coated rubble but the corner chains, the bays and the gate are built in freestone from Dom-le-Mesnil.
The floor is covered with ceramic tiles with geometric patterns and the interior faces of the walls are coated (those of the side aisles are covered with ex-voto).
The side aisle walls are pierced with lancet windows, the gable walls of the transept arms with a large semicircular rose window, and the apse with tall lancet windows; the central vessel of the nave has low semicircular arches supported by columns with capitals and surmounted by quatrefoil oculi.
The bell tower has a portal with a straight lintel (which can also be found reduced to the side aisles) under a arch; it is surmounted by a twin bay under a rose which illuminates the organ gallery.
The nave, the transept and the right bay of the choir are vaulted with edges and the apse is vaulted with warheads. The roof of the building is in slate.
The central vessel of the nave and the transept are covered with a long-sided roof with open gables, the right bay of the choir and the sacristies with a long-sided roof, the side aisles with a sloping roof, the apse and the absidioles by a polygonal croup and the bell tower by a polygonal spire.
