Eglise Notre Dame de l'Assomption de Nouvion sur Meuse

Closed to the public
The church of Notre-Dame, located to the south of the village near the Meuse, dates from the 13th century for the central bay of the chevet and some walls, while the rest was rebuilt around 1520-30. A fortification, adding bretèches and arquebusiers, took place in the 16th or 17th century, accompanied by the construction of a sacristy with a refuge room on the upper floor. The bell tower, erected at the end of the 17th century, has openings that could be defensive, and its upper part was restored after a conflict in the 20th century.

The building, made of limestone rubble and cut stone, has an elongated plan with a three-bay nave and a ante-choir framed by chapels. The walls pierced with bays are rendered inside, and the floors are made of slate. Ribbed vaults supported by columns punctuate the interior. The bell tower, with a polygonal pediment portal and Tuscan pilasters, is topped with a square spire, and the roofs are made of slate.
