Le Moulin à Couleurs

Color earth factory

Labeled EPV – Living Heritage Company.

Located in the south Ardennes, Le Moulin à Couleurs is the last factory of
coloring lands in France. Pigments are used in small quantities by
painters, or in 25 kg bags by restoration masons. The tall
paint brands have also adopted them to supply professionals
art. Since 1866, the company has been responding to extremely high demands
varied by adapting to the needs and constraints of its customers.

The activity consists of extracting land or ochre, mainly from the Ardennes.
To dry or burn them then grind them as finely as possible to obtain a 100% natural pigment which can be marketed both in the artistic field and in the field of heritage restoration.

The pigments from Moulin à Couleurs are used for the restoration of Notre Dame de Paris, Place Ducale or the Château de Sedan…
But also by painters, manufacturers of artistic paint or even manufacturers of colored pencils. Individuals can also make their own paints using pigments from the Moulin à Couleurs.

The factory is open for the sale of pigment from:
Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 13:30 p.m. to 17:00 p.m. except Friday 16:30 p.m.

Visits are by reservation only.
