A jewel of French Baroque opera, Platée playfully subverts conventions with humor and whimsy. With a libretto by Valois d'Orville, Jean-Philippe Rameau unfolds a sparkling score blending arias, choruses, and dances in an irresistibly comic structure. The unlikely heroine, a frog-nymph, believes herself loved by Jupiter before becoming a plaything of the gods. Brought to life by Laurent Pelly's witty and offbeat staging, this funny and delightful show is ideal for a first encounter with opera, even for young audiences.
