Exposition : Globes Story II
– Conference on Elements of the History of Cartography on November 7 at 18:30 p.m.
– Guided tours of the exhibition by the Omega association on Saturday afternoons from November 8 to December 6, 2025.
A pair of antique globes, a celestial globe and a terrestrial globe, made in the workshops of the Valk firm in Amsterdam in 1750, have been part of the Charleville library's collections, probably since its creation in 1803. Originally scientific instruments, symbols of knowledge and power, they also have artistic value. They had been in critical condition for several years. Thanks to the support of the Regional Fund for the Restoration and Acquisition of State Libraries (FRRAB), they were able to benefit from major restoration work in 2023.
After the first exhibition devoted to the celestial globe and the sky map, the Omega-Ardenne Astronomie association presents a second section dedicated to the terrestrial globe with works from the heritage collection from the 16th to the 19th century, geographical compendiums and old maps.
