After the election of Castle of Sedan under Favorite French Monument, the Ardennes department has just been officially labeled “Fleuri Department" alongside Alsace, Côtes d'Armor and Morbihan in 2023. A great national recognition which crowns a departmental commitment of many years.
“Flower Department” label
The “Fleuri Department” label distinguishes the territories which are involved in an exemplary manner in the animation of the “Flowering Towns and Villages” label and in raising awareness and supporting municipalities. The floral departments are notably rewarded for taking the label into account in the departmental strategy or for the tourist promotion of the label.
This distinction is awarded for a period of five years by the national jury. The Ardennes thus joins the club of 16 French departments that hold this label.
1 in 4 Ardennes communes has flowers
The towns and villages of the Ardennes are committed on a daily basis to improving their living environment, by giving a privileged place to plants in the development of public spaces or through actions in favor of the environment and biodiversity. . The national label awarding 1 to 4 flowers is based on more than 60 evaluation criteria. It rightly rewards municipalities engaged in this approach to preserving natural resources and biodiversity, promoting botanical heritage and built heritage, tourist attractiveness and involving citizens at the heart of projects.
