Ancienne carrière de pierres de Dom le Mesnil
Opening once or twice a year to extract stone.
The sun stone, also called Dom stone, has a very characteristic yellow ochre colour, omnipresent in the Ardennes heritage. The old quarries of Dom Le Mesnil provided, in the 17th century, the raw material to erect most of the buildings such as the Place Ducale in Charleville-Mézières and the fortifications of Ayvelles. Its exploitation ended in 1951. This quarry is still open today once or twice a year for people wishing to extract a block of stone.
